ANXIETY DISORDER AND ANXIETY DISORDERS
An anxiety disorder is more than feeling stressed, it’s also feelings of anxious, nervous and angry or frustrated about a situation
or something that has happened or will happen. Anxiety disorders are a feeling of uneasiness and are not always recognized or attributed to
one certain thing.
Stress in small quantities can be a healthy thing and can actually motivate you to do something about the stress; however, too much stress can
be dangerous to both your physical and mental wellbeing. Unrelenting and persistent stress can lead to depression and anxiety disorders that if
not treated can lead to bigger health problems.
Some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders include but are not limited to – difficult controlling your worry, your worry and anxiety are out of
proportion to the situation at hand, you are all ‘keyed up’ or restless over the situation and can’t seem to calm down. Other symptoms include
not being able to concentrate, being easily tired and irritability and sleep disturbance, either trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.
There is treatment for anxiety disorders and the goal of the treatment is to help the person suffering from the disorder to return to a normal
function. The traditional treatment combines anti-depression medications and cognitive behavioral therapy treatments.
Some of the treatment therapies that have worked with many patients include mental imagery – pleasant thoughts – relaxation techniques and
changing possible distorted and harmful thoughts of the anxiety into good and positive thoughts. Many people with anxiety disorders find that
realizing the source of their stress and anxiety helps them to overcome it faster and easier than if they did not know where it was coming from.
However, there are many people who might not ever know where the source for their anxiety disorder began because it might have begun in childhood
and they have carried it with them through to adulthood.
Support groups are another option to consider when you are suffering from an anxiety disorder. You will learn that you are not unique in that
other people suffer the same or similar anxiety disorders. In a group situation, you will learn to take turns talking about what is happening in
your life and giving support to others who may need an extra bit of time on any given week. You will build friendships based on trust that you
will not tell anyone who they are and they will not tell who you are and why you meet each week to discuss your anxiety disorder. It is a private
mater between you and the group.
As with all disorders, social, anxiety and phobias, a good healthy lifestyle which includes eating right, exercise and getting enough rest
will help with the level of anxiety in anyone. It will also reduce your stress because study after study has proven that exercise and a healthy;
balanced diet will reduce your level of anxiety and increase your level of endorphins which cause a person to feel better about themselves and
about life in general.
